Did you know that you can begin your journey to gorgeous wedding day hair and makeup, long before you walk down the aisle? Whilst a skilled bridal hair and makeup artist will of course have you looking amazing on your wedding day without any extra preparation, if you want to have a hand in making sure that you look your very best there are a few things you can do in the run up to the main event.
Here are 5 quick & easy beauty tips to include in your wedding day preparations:
Stay Hydrated
You can spend all the money in the world on fancy moisturisers and whilst having an amazing face cream is without a doubt a great addition to your beauty bag, you can’t beat staying hydrated on the inside with good, old fashioned water.
Make sure that you’re getting at least 1.5 litres of water a day for at least a few weeks before your wedding day, or longer if you can, for glowing, plumped up skin without the need for magic products.
Staying well hydrated will brighten your eyes, reduce fine lines, help to even skin tone and even aid in clearing up any skin conditions in time for your big day.
Hair Care
If your hair needs a bit of TLC, don’t leave it until the last minute! Hair that has been well conditioned right before styling can be quite tricky to manage as it won’t want to stay put, so ideally you’ll spend a few months treating yourself to a weekly hair mask or oil treatment, rather than going crazy with conditioner on the day.
Another thing to remember for when the big day comes around is that ‘day old’ hair styles way better. Unless you absolutely can’t stand it, it’s always best to have washed your hair the night before your wedding day (without conditioner), rather than on the day itself.
Relax
Stress wreaks havoc on hair and skin and there’s no denying that the run up to your wedding day can be a stressful time. Don’t allow all that planning and anticipation to get the better of you – give yourself some time each day to relax.
Whether that comes from some peaceful meditation, a hot bath with a glass of wine or just some ‘me time’, you’ll find that taking a moment to breathe and chill out will have a great effect on your beauty routine.
Exfoliate
Exfoliation is an important part of any skincare routine and even more so on the run up to your wedding day. You don’t need to go crazy with scrubbing your skin every day, just a once or twice weekly gentle going over will do just fine.
When you exfoliate your skin, you are removing any dead skin cells sitting on the surface, which can stop your products from absorbing efficiently and your makeup from going on smoothly. Having well prepped skin means you’ll be getting more bang for your buck, with moisturisers and skin oils, and offering up the perfect canvas for your makeup to be applied to.
Beauty Sleep
Getting a good night’s sleep might be easier said than done when you’ve got so much on your mind, particularly the night before your wedding day when you’ll be feeling like a kid at Christmas! But beauty sleep really is a thing, so try to catch as many ZZZs as you can.
If you’re really struggling to drift off at night, try sipping on some soothing chamomile tea, enjoy a hot bath with a few drops of lavender oil, exercise (but not too close to bed time!) or ditch the caffeine – your adrenals don’t need the extra stress!
